Anti-Pro-Ana by cyanideindustries Anti-Pro-Ana by cyanideindustries
This deviation is rather a statement than a "piece of art".

Ever since I was 13, I have been struggling with anorexia. In times of complete desperation, I found the ridiculous, dangerous idea of simply being pro-ana tremendously tempting; it was "easier" to just claim it was a lifestyle, not a disease and therefore not having to summon up the energy to fight and help myself.
I started wearing one of these red bracelets representing "Pain is temporary, pride is forever", "perfection", "courage", "beauty" and "bite me", set up an "ana-book" with "thinspiration" pictures and slogans, and for some time, I really did feel like (or tried to tell myself I did feel like) I was just living a lifestyle I had chosen for myself and did not need any help.

And one day I woke up. Pro-ana is nothing but firstly, a dangerous cult-like pest and secondly an excuse for not having to fight and having given up on yourself.

Anorexia is a sickness. Not a lifestyle.

I am now twenty-one years old and thanks to my eating disorder I've still not completely recovered from, I have osteoporosis, my kidneys are damaged and I have quite a lot of hideous stretch-marks from losing weight, gaining weight, losing weight, gaining weight, losing weight.
I almost starved to death. Thrice.

Being shockingly thin is not beautiful.
Being shockingly thin is not "perfection".
Bones sticking out of your body are not exactly a parameter for a "perfect figure".
And OH YES, a LOT of things taste WAY better than being thin feels.

Women are supposed to be curvy, confident and healthy looking.

I started wearing a green bracelet as a complete opposite to the red pro-ana one. And even though I am not completely cured, I fight. Every day. Because I do love myself and I do love the life I was given. And so should all of you. You're worth it.

I commend you for having the courage to tell your story. I used to be a cutter and had/have body dysmorphia. Putting your personal story in such a public forum (ie- the internet) isn't always easy. There are those people who don't fully understand what it's like, how hard it is to fight.
